Default Newark watershed help

I just bought a boat this yr and would like to know if the newark watershed would be worth me getting the permits and fishing there? I have never fished it either? And can anyone tell me if there are any bait shops near by there or just franks bait and tackle in wanaque?

Thanks for any advice, Mike

there is garden state bow and reel...located on 23 north just above oak ridge res...they have anything you will need...the watershed is a beautiful place and worth getting the permit to fish

Ramps seem good but I do a car top type launch so I can't comment on it. Parking is an issue sometimes though. Only room for a few at each, but, at least there's another resi within ten minutes if u get "skunked" on a spot.

Only prob is not being sure about the state of the shed. I'd be kinda mad if my yearlong permit is only good till the end of May..........We'll see.

all of the ramps are extremely shallow. if you are launching from a trailer, plan on backing your tow vehicle all the way down into the water. a trailer with rollers instead of bunks would probably help.

Don't forget the newest of the area bait shops, Fins and Furs @ 2727 State Route 23, Newfoundland, NJ (973) 545-2336. They are on Rt 23 southbound just north of Echo Lake Rd. They are a bit small but had a good selection and the owner is a nice guy.

well worth the permit... beautiful highland lakes with a great variety of fish. SM LM perch, chains, muskie, trout.. think canasteer has walleyes...

Once you figure them out it can be productive all year long...

I had a similar experience at fins and furs... very friendly and helpful.. guy built the tanks himself and the bait is real hearty...
