Default Surprise Walleye

Went for cats this morning in the D&R canal and bounced a jig while waiting for a hungry channel to come along. No luck with them but i hooked a 16" eye on the jig. It was spawning too; must have traveled 30-40 miles from the big D since they are rarely found in here locally, and there's probably more to come.

Nice! When I landed mine in the Passaic a few weeks ago, Mark B. (state fisheries biologist) posted about the Walleye in the Raritan River, which came from the Delaware through the DR canal. They're highly migratory. The spot I caught mine was probably 30+ water miles and multiple water falls and dams away from its closest stocking spot. Congrats.

Nice Eye! Seems the best way to catch them is not to target them, lol. I'll have to give that a try............
