Hope they're OK. When the wind picked up yesterday the water got really choppy.

State Police Chopper has been circling over the Fish Lab as it searches The Valley.

Pat was over there @ noon,.............said that they have it closed to fishing / recreation as the search is going on.

I heard about it on the radio. So I drove by about 3:30. Looks like they are still looking. Didn't see any helicopters. The wind was picking up on the water.

The Valley is not a forgiving place and the conditions can change in minutes!
People need to be Extremely Careful on that lake! Report unfortunetly doesn't sound too promising, Very Sad Situation. Please be careful and respect the water anywhere you are boating!!!!!

Nobody should be out there in cold water in a non-power vessel and never alone, always with at least another person. I think anyone fishing in cold water especially deep and away from shore should be wearing a PDF. Its only like 100 or so for an inflatable that you dont even know is on, and it will save your life. Its a fact that over half the people that die in cold water off of boats fall in while takin a pee, the others lose balance and shock gets them. Id be wearing one on RV if i was out there this week and alone

The cold water is my greatest concern as a kayaker.

It takes 30 minutes to put on the correct drysuit -

and as I get older - I more often that not just avoid the cold water.

Any small craft should hug the shore line when the water temps are lethal.

RIP

I capsized my canoe there one day and had my PFD on. I bought a good paddling model PDF and it worked perfectly. It wasn't a fun experience. I had an electric motor on it and it lost power and I was padlling back in a gust of wind got me sideways that allowed some water in that just unbalanced the canoe to the point it just went over. I was helped by a RVTA member who came right to my aid and pulled me up into to his boat and helped me right my canoe and bail it out and tow back to the main launch. Lost some stuff but thats fine with me. Water was pretty cold as it was the end of May. I sold the canoe. Have fished\camped at RV for close to 30 years and I've seen some bad conditions. PFD is your friend. I thought that canoes and kayaks need to wear a drysuit, or wetsuit, from 15-Nov to 15-May ?
