Hit the usual spots for trout/smallmouth, it was fairly warm at first and the rain wasnt too bad, plus there were hardly any leaves floating for some reason. I wasn't specifically targeting fall stockies at first but had better luck than expected...threw out a yo-zuri pins minnow with no luck, switched to an orange trout mag under a float; got 2 dink smallies back to back. Headed a little downstream to a deep channel with nothing for a while, then saw something big dart across the riverbed. A little while later, the float shot down and i hooked and landed a fat 14" bow, first trout of the fall

fought like a stick though... Drove upstream and fished the same setup through more deep passes. Got a 15.5" even fatter bow; much stronger fighting fish. Guy fishing next to me wasnt catching all day so he came over and asked how i did it, so i gave him the whole lecture on the wonders of trout magnets

. Fished and talked with him for a while and got a 12" smallie. Gave him the same TM as mine, i walked upstream and he got a decent trout, looked at least a foot from the distance. Headed out after the rain came pouring down, but definitely having much better luck than last year's fall stocking.
