Default Pompton/Potash Lakes 10/15

Got on the water around 830am. Conditions were EXTREMELY windy, choppy water and tons of leaves on the water. Pretty tough conditions in the kayak, but I managed to land this chubby guy. Weighed in at about 4lbs on my buddies scale. It hit a Strike King Baby Craw on a shakey jig head in about 8ft. of water. This fish was very nice sized for me, as it was or was close to my personal best. No other fish the rest of the day for me, but my buddy managed a big Yellow Perch on a small crankbait. I had a few nice blowups throughout the day but no hookups on topwater.

Hey man...

Pompton Lake is in north jerz, in the towns of Pompton Lakes and Oakland...off of either 23 or 287. Potash and Pompton are connected via a short river/channel.

Nice fish. Is Potash the part of the river/lake that is north of the Doty st bridge? I didn't know it had a separate name.

I probably saw you guys. And yeah, besides it being a beautiful day out most of the day, that wind was horrendous. The chop it made in the river between the 2 lakes was nuts! I actually had 3 or 4 waves throw some water into the yak...not cool.

Did you guys fish both lakes or just Pompton?

Exactly. The "river" that seperates them and feeds Potash is the Ramapo River.

it was my first time there but i THINK it was just the pompton since we didnt go thru any river, we sat at the mouth of the PO for a bit but the wind was pushing us north into the shore so that didnt last long

Just Pompton Skunk. Check yer PM. The water temp was 62 degrees and it was dirty up north. I think this lake is turning over and with the cold front that came through and the high bluebird skies, conditions were tough. Did not read any fish deep but they were STACKED anywhere there was 6 and a half to 8-feet of water but wouldn't eat. Every time we reached that depth there was a wall of fish on the sonar but we didn't get a hit. The flats near the ramp where we ended the day had warmer, cleaner water and produced the only fish. Saw lots of surface action too, but nothing biting. Thanks again for the help man, was a good day nonetheless. Was happy to get out in that forecast and break-in the boat with John.
