Default Assunpink Sat and Sun

Sat:
Hit the lake at 4:45 with my daughter (10 yrs old). Worked toward the back I was looking for top water bite, she had a curly-cue jig. By 5:30 she had a bass, pickerel, crappie, and a fat bluegill...me nothing so I switched to a rooster tail. Soon the tally was 4:4 and she wanted to switch to the same bait as me...done

She landed a pickerel and THEN she caught a 200 lb MONSTER...DADDY!
Hooked me right in the bottom of the mouth just below the mouth and above the chin...OUCH!

Barb was under the skin due to the fact she was trying to cast out after hitting me in the face...off to the hospital @ 7:15 where they numbed my jaw, popped the barbed hook out a new hole and cut and remove/ I have a few puncture holes, no stitches and a small place on my cheek where the spinner part hit.

Sun:

Hit the lake at the same time as previous day, first time I have ever had to wait to launch there as there was some tournament. Picked up where I left off yesterday. Had 15 bass up to ~ 2 lbs and a few pickerel. The bite died for me around 10 am so switched to the jig and nailed 2 dozen crappie, a hand full of small whiter perch, a few yellow perch, and big bluegills. By 11 am off the lake. Not a bad day...not the best. Saw 2 guys in the back fishing crickets? with BIG bobbers nailing lots bluegills and quite a few catfish.

BTW: If you go there, DON'T take the main entrance past the archery/gun range...it is the lunar surface! Go the back way as traveling is very smooth. It will take you the same amount of time and will save your boat/tailer/equipment from bouncing around unless you go super slow and it takes longer to go this way!

Cool Re: Assunpink Sat and Sun

Hooked my dad in the nose once. I was casting forward and he was sitting behind me, the force of the cast snapped the line, I looked back and saw a Mepps hanging from his nose. I'll never forget that day as long as I live !!

Man this is the third piercing for me. Once with my Dad perhaps 20 years ago, both treble hooks in the arm, same scene but with a rattle trap...to the emergency room

3 years ago, caught a Blue off the beach on a popper, LARGE treble hook in and out with the blue @ 8 lbs fighting and pulling, had to cut the barb and pull out the other end.

Fishing can be a little dangerous...Thinking of quitting...NOT ONE YOUR LIFE!

So 50 fish for one person in a little over 5 hours isn't stupid fishing? Gotta say, that's raising the bar . Awesome job, gotta hit Assunpink soon.

Assunpink is usually about numbers for me. You catch a lot of smaller fish and the occasional GREAT fish. I dont like to endless toss which ever lure there in the deep of hoping to hook up with the GREAT Fish and spend all day for 1 or 2 fish...others may do better?

I like very early and late here as that is the best opportunity for the "lunkers" I have experienced.

When they are un-cooperative, the others will bite. Find a small school of crappie and it is every cast...ditto for the bluegill which tend to outweigh the crappie. If you can find the yellow perch, also can be every cast, although briefly. And look out for those freshwater bluefish they can and will be caught fishing for anything...it doesn't matter...Think I got $20-30 of lures either swimming around or on the bottom over the years from bite offs.

Me and the old man had 100 fish days there but we were out there 8-9
hours. Crappie fishing can be very good there, have done 30 minute limits before. However, finding them can be a challenge. It seems to be most consitent around the island but there are days we can never find them. Bluegills and perch are also prevelant. I have caught toothy critters everywhere in that lake but they havent given me any issues . It seems to be a VERY hit or miss lake for us, one day its stellar, a couple days or a week later it sucks.

I have not fished the island so much. Tend to go across the lake, left side where there is the "hump" before the only "cove" Money! Way back in the back is good but in the late summer look out for weeds as they were already starting to get thick. Lots of fish there just gotta work it and weed through the numerous "dinks". Hey a fish on is a fish one and the powerful bit of even a dink can be explosive...Hold on for the real deal...it is there
