... A sad day indeed... Finally got personal time to fish for fun and i went to one of my favorite ponds. I had heard it was lowered for dam repair three or four weeks ago and knowing the quality of fish available in that lake was exited to see what i could expect to see in the diminished area. What i found was nearly nausiating. First thing i noticed was dead fresh water clams, crayfish... and empty nests of fish. The beavers had gone, and some of the great ice fishing spots became evident as the bottom structure was showing. So far so good! So at this point i'm still expecting a great fishing experience and thinking ok a year or two to recovery... Then... heh heh it was shopping time, in and around every log and tree surrounding this beaver populated pond are lures jigs and hooks! So after loading up on some "used" lures, it was down the rock outcrops to get near the water. With great exitement and anticipation, i took my 1st cast, a silver/white zoom shad twitched and twitched...nothing. After two or three more of the same i switched to my panfish crappie rig.... nothing. Now maybe i wasn't letting myself accept what was happening maybe i didn't want to but after lots of mud and "maybe over there." It was clear it was empty but of some tiny fish and a few stragglers...very few. Unfathomable! This great spot?! She was temperamental as most spring ponds are, and was very weary of the moon, temperature, sun, and preasure. I walked out as if leaving a funeral.
