Merrill Creek Res. mixed bag 6/6:
Got to the bait store as they opened, I called last night and they said they had plenty of herring....NOT ! The guy in front of me took 2 dozen and I wiped her out taking the last 6 dozen, then I got 2 dozen shiners on top of that.
Got set up on anchor in 60ft. of water around 6am and had my 1st run off around 7:30am, laker, and hour later another laker. Wind started kicking so I crossed the lake and anchored in about 40ft. of water. At this spot I got 3 stockie browns, a yellow perch, a 22" slime dart and an 18" smallmouth.
Schools of herring would go by me and thats when my lines started to get hit, it seems the fish shadow the schools of herring. Saw tons of herring, but nothing busting on them. Water was ALOT cleaner this go round, I could see down about 15ft. on my anchor rope. 4 boats on the lake today. I saw more schools of herring as I was headed into the boat launch. No big browns today. The place is gonna funky in a few weeks (summer funk) for me tough fishing. All fish caught on live lined herring on a #6- 3906 Mustad hook, 4 and 6lb. Trilene XL line. Off the lake by noon.
