Default Rvr 6/4

Hit RVR at 6 AM today, started on the main reservoir and it just wasn't working. Rock Bass were driving me crazy nibbling at my lures so after 2 hours I moved over to the swimming lake to try out my newly loaded braided line on my old baitcaster. First time using braid and I really liked the feel of it and was just happy at the knot I put on my leader held.

On my 3rd cast I caught a LMB about a LB using a 5" finesse worm on my other baitcaster. After that got torn up in the vegetation I bumped a 3" jig along the bottom on the braid set-up and hooked into a pickerel that went around 3 LBS. What are the typical sizes these things are caught at? This is 2 in 2 weeks for me and they were both pretty big and a nice fight to get in.

Was quiet for awhile and then I hooked into one of the most tenacious bass on my spincast set-up that bent the rod and kept it bent. He never broke the surface once but just dragged me down, when I got it to the shoreline he pulled drag out and when I got him in again he did a belly roll and out came the hook and worm which flew right past my ear. Unreal feeling losing that one, probably a good 4 LBS.

Hope to get out early tomorrow again, might not bother with the main lake.

To answer the question about the pick, that's a good size. Watched one hit my senko today, but was probably about 1/4 the size of yours. Hook pulled right out b/c of bony mouth.

Nice report - thanks for the share!

Thanks. The one I had last week was a bit bigger, I caught a pike once a few years back when on summer vacation and it wasn't as near as big as the 2 pickerel I've now caught so it just seems odd that I'd get the big ones right off the bat. The NJ fishery magazine for this year has one on the cover about the size of a guy's hand! Might be why I think they generally go much smaller..

Went back to RVR yesterday morning and fished the swimming lake from 6 to 10 AM. Only one fish on the day, a 2 LBS largemouth caught on a 5" weightless finesse worm rigged texas-style I twitched through the vegetation.

Only saw 2 bass swim by and pretty sure the one I caught was one of them. Slow day, not a bite to be had. Didn't seem to be a lot of people around either, if I didn't have other obligations I could have spent the whole day in the peace & quiet.
