Total BS. The commercial restriction would be enough to bring them to levels never seen before. Incredible.... Just another recreational fisherman's nightmare. Yeah, the recs have harvested sooo many winter flounder over the past 4 years. LOL. It never ends. It is just too much. I don't know about you, but I have already submitted applications for my rod and reels to be accepted into the national historic register.

omg

I mis-read the title as "Flounder Rigs" and was wondering why someone would need rigs to catch only 2 fish.

I guess a bushel of clams, a flat of worms and a dozen or so chum logs to catch a couple fish isn't cost efficient??

Another case of poor science. Hell, even I caught limits this year

Question Re: New Flounder Regs!

Hasn't this all been gone over months ago?

I remember a meeting in Tom River, very few people there to speak up, not that it would have done much good by then, but at leats it could have been one of those "stand up and be counted" things everyone is talking about now. Correct me if I'm wrong (like I have to ask) but there were maybe 25 people there.

Again, skip the meetings and piss & moan about it later. If we can't stay a step ahead we have to at least try to keep up, pay attention people.

I was going to say the same thing Ron, this is not news and we have been talking all summer about the closure of the flounder season, two fish per person is the same as closure for those who run charter boats and talking about what we will do until the stripers arrive. Guess everyone forgot while returning all those short fluke! I was at the meeting and the message was it was a done deal, no matter what the NJ reps voted they would be thrown into a larger group that would carry the two fish limit. Most of the people attending were commercials or party/ charter captains, just a few of us anglers.

I've always railed against the illogical regulations put on recreational fishing, but I have to say, winter flounder is one species where it seems to make some sense. Clearly, the fishery was very weak this past spring. Contrast that with fluke and sea bass, which are very strong.

I'm no scientist, or an expert on fishing regulations, but I'm not going to automatically complain about restrictions on winter flounder fishing, provided that the obviously strong fisheries, like fluke, sea bass, stripers have less restrictions placed on them.
