a good day on the ice
I am happy to see the ice growing on the cong. I fished in a bunch of places that had safe ice to walk on in the coves on the lake. state park area, woodport, and lakes end cove are some of the areas that had 5" to 6" of ice. i have had a mix of fish in the 6 days that i got out from small perch to decent sized largemouth bass and of course the nasty slime darts( chain pickerel) as well as sunnies. the main part of the lake needs some more time to thicken up a bit as i only found 3" to 3 and a half inches, that is a bit skinny for me to venture out over deeper water. I like 5" or better. with the temps for the next couple of days looking good to grow more ice we should be good to go for the weekend. the knee deep club has scheduled the first ice fishing contest for the 26th of January the ice should be good to go if we do not get any bad weather by then. FLAG UP lets goooooooo. if you go out please use a spud bar to check the ice as you go, the lake froze in sections this year and we had warm weather around the new year that hindered the ice from getting locked up.
