Default Crabbing

Got the family out crabbing this Sunday and it did not disappoint. Best crabbing we've had in several years in the Shrewsbury and Navesink area. We got a late start and only crabbed for a few hours and had 3 dozen really nice big Jimmies and weeded through tons of shorts and big females too.

We fished the incoming but not sure it mattered. It was instant on from the time we got there till the time we left. All on Chicken and weighted drop lines in 5 to 6 feet of water...

1 can of beer in a steam pot, layer of crabs covered in mustard and Old Bay, repeat with another layer with more mustard and old bay and steam for 25 minutes.

What a feast and soooo good I'm still tasting them.

Oh and my Granson finally could be trusted scooping this year

Thanks guys, I'm really happy he's so into fishing, so much they have a small pound in the community they live in which he fishes before and after school and got all the neighborhood kids into. And get this... All the parents in the community chipped in and they are going to have the ponds stocked with Largemouth and bait fish.

No telling how far getting just one kid into fishing will go!

Great report and congrats on your grandson "right of passage" on the net!
I remember when my grandfather allowed that right and i was so proud. Missed a few and took the gentle ( yeah sure) verbal comments but inspired me to scoop better (especially on his hand line)!

Correct on getting any kid into this sport!!
Keep it up! Next is netting DD fluke

Great haul!

I think I’ve caught more crabs this year while fluking then actual fluke !

And they were huge crabs!

He was upset when he missed that first crab so I didn't ride him too much... Told him he had a one crab penalty for high sticking and he didn't miss one after that..

Thumbs up Re: Crabbing

Nice !! Do be careful though handling raw chicken in the hot summer sun. Most times when I went to Red Bank my friend and I would get a flat of frozen bunker. One cooler for bait, another for crabs. Turkey necks work great also. Duffman talked of "killie rings" that sound awesome. Another side note: don't dispose of raw chicken into the bays and ocean, it really doesn't break down and turns into massive fuzzy blob, best to find a big hungry seagull to get rid of unwanted chicken parts.
