Exclamation Meeting on storm surge gates Dec. 7:

On 7 December the Raritan Yacht Club will be hosting a public meeting on the New York-New Jersey Harbor and Tributaries coastal storm risk management feasibility study, (NYNJHATS). A fancy title for a proposed project to protect NY Harbor from a Sandy like storm surge. We will be affected in our local area mostly by a surge gate across the Arthur Kill from Tottenville to the end of Washington Street in Perth Amboy, (see the attachment). So far the Corps of Engineers has been trying to schedule the public meetings in the areas to be protected by this project. It appears that of lesser concern are areas that might be affected by waters diverted by these gates such as much of Perth Amboy, South Amboy, the Bayshore and the lower Raritan River. I am hoping that we might be able to assure that our local areas are properly addressed. If you are able to attend, please utilize the link in the notice below.
