I was down in SNJ again this past weekend helping my grandma close up shop for the winter, but also to do some fishing and hang with some family. Took my cousin and his lady out to a famous jetty with the goal of catching some Tautog. I posted recently about my first time togging so im still pretty new to it but I gained a lot of confidence last time and came better prepared this go around.
Had 30lb braid on a 2500 size reel, used a MH bass rod and my cousin and his GF had similar setups. Got them setup with jigs tipped with sand fleas and we went to work. My cousin fishes frequently, his lady not so much, but everyone hooked a small tog within the first 30 minutes. We picked away slowly but started getting plagued with pinner sea bass and bergall so we made a move.
I figured we'd move out a bit further on the jetty to try and get on some more tog and we found a few honey holes. Everyone caught good sized ones, probably 4 keepers in total, all released. Didn't take a ton of photos since the action was non stop with well over 30 tog landed. Awesome day on the tog grounds!
