Default First ocean fluke trip

Cleared the inlet just before 8 and headed north on a flat ocean. First stop in Asbury in 40foot produced skates and small sand sharks. Left very quickly and continued to Allenhurst and set up in 30foot, within the first 5 minutes we had our 3 overs all around 20 inches and took 2 slots quickly behind. Many shorts.

FinIshed with a 3 man limit at 10:30. Light wind just enough to keep us moving on nice long drifts. Nice spread of fish all in 25 to 35 foot from Allenhurst thru Deal. Water temp in mid 60’s.

On a side note Belmar fuel dock is open. Gas is 5.83 and diesel 5.95

My crew commented that this was the way they remembered flunking in the old days!

Flunking is usually my specialty but today Fluking was the verb of choice, thanks for a great quickie trip Henry. The plan was to conserve fuel and maximize fishing time - mission accomplished.

I had similar action both Monday and Tuesday. I run out of SRI, and it’s nice to have close fluking. Also had the blitzing blues off Bradley beach both coming and going.

I was under the impression that Florida had good fishing for fluke/flounder in the tidal rivers, bays etc... No?... I know there are southern and gulf flounder as well as plain old fluke down there, but maybe they are tougher to locate than the fluke up north?... Lots more competition from other predator species maybe?.. I have seen reports over the years of good catches in the Banana/Indian Rivers as well as in the ocean and Gulf.

I have no idea really, just articles I have read over the years, you would know a lot more about it than I do about the reality..... bob
