Default great striper jigging out of Montauk, NY

I had great striper jigging on the Ebb Tide out of Montauk, NY last evening and this morning.
Capt Anthony D'Arrigo showed how to catch big striper on a jig by landing and releasing monster striped close to 60 lb.
Even it was Saturday very few anglers showed up.
We used 4 oz hammered diamond jigs.
All were released.

No hate at all….actually comes from loving bass.
All these “look at me” hero shots do a lot of harm to the stock.

Thanks. It is common to see negative comment on internet instead of congratulating for life time catch, especially on jigs.
If you don't want to hurt fish, don't fish.
How can you weigh the life time fish ?
Capt used to be capt of Viking. He choose only jigging as he does not hurt striper as possible.
Just enjoy the pictures.
Even I fish almost everyday, I was excited to see the catch on a jig.

My friend released a 13.1 lb fluke in Nantucket Shoal yesterday.
He weighed holding by the lip. Any other way to weigh fish ?

Nice fish ! I always thought a tape measurement was always more that enough. With the onset of boga grips it's getting rough out there, especially in freshwater. You can weigh the fish hanging in a net.

we use a carp sling for muskies. Weigh & tape the fish in the sling, release the fish, weigh the sling w/o the fish, deduct from the total to get approx weight.

Its all stress on the fish. We just try to minimize it. If it swims away, we hope for the best. I like to think I treat my releases better than most--feels good knowing you tried.

Nice trophy striper, Kilsong. That's def a fish of a lifetime. The fluke aint too shabby either! Too many jump in with negativity off the bat. Admire that its a nice fish and move on.

Tape measurement is great idea. In fact, they measure fish by length, not by weight in Korea and Japan.
At my recommendation the Morning Star out of Ocean City, MD measure tog so that anglers release tog still can win the pool.
I highly recommend party boats and charter boats measure fish by length so that anglers can join the pool by releasing fish.

The main reason I post here is I found all party boas in NJ were packed when they catch striper on jigs. I let them know good quality striper jigging is going on in Montauk water. The main problems to fish Montauk is the traffic and high cost of lodging.
