![]() Who’s been there? Worth the ride?
1st day off this Sat in 3 weeks and gotta get moving. Better half has been working from home forever since Covid started and I can’t take her anymore ![]() Figure road trip to cabelas and a few food stops. OR hit up bass pro in AC then the slots afterwards. Hamburg 115 miles from me. AC is 90. So same drive basically. What to do?

2. Drop her at the hotel. Go to Bass Pro. 3. Come back, slaughter the slots. 4. Take her for a big steak with your winnings 5. You get in Bass Pro, gambling and a steak. You’re a winner to her. If you lose at slots, buy her a hot dog. Oh well…. |

![]() Bass Pro and Cabelas are one and the same. Hamburg might have a little more hunting merchandise and has a little more space for freshwater fishing interests. The fly fishing area is bigger than Bass Pro in AC and there are many more mounted animals of all kinds. The freshwater aquarium is bigger and more interesting than the one at Bass Pro.
The downside is that it is in the middle of Pennsylvania and it is winter. There are a few casinos on your way there or back but I'd rather drive on the GSP than on 78 during the winter. Cabelas is a good distraction for cabin fever especially since it looks like any outdoor shows are still out of the question for the late winter. Whether it is Bass Pro or Cabelas, once you've walked around the store for an hour, you'll be looking for something else to do. If it's a casino you're looking for after the store, go to AC. AC has the outlets right there too. If you go to Hamburg, check out what else is along the way that might interest you or your wife. There is shopping at both stores for women's wear. She may like to go. |

![]() Hamburg store hasn't been good the last few trips I've been there. Most recent was just a couple months ago. Lot more inventory is just clothing than fishing and hunting gear than it ever used to be. They barely had any fishing reels in stock and a poor selection of rods.

![]() The mega stores??? Meh.. If selection is all that matters, fine, they have a lot of stuff I guess, compared to small local shops, but as stated above they seem to want to sell $39.00 T shirts and $49.00 baseball caps with deer emblazoned across them more than serious fishing/hunting gear.. Also, there are NO bargains there.. Full top of the line retail at all times.
We have Sportsman Warehouse, as well as Bass Pro, and before they closed up shop, Gander Mountain... All expensive... Better off going to a local and getting what you actually need.or simply going to Walmart if they carry what you are looking for... No bargains at the big boxes, and it gets worse each year..... ![]() I went to Hamburg on a weekend a few years ago from NE Jersey. It was crowded and really a waste of time. They didn't have the items I needed.
Last year I took a ride to Bass Pro in AC. It was OK but not worth a special trip. Combine it with a casino trip and it may be nice weekend. Prices aren't that great most times. Besides, I get 10-15% off on most items from my local tackle shop in town. I'd rather give them the business. |

I feel ya man! It sound like a road trip to Hamburg is a good idea unless you are a Casino person also. I have been there a few times and it's worth it. They also serve some interesting food there also. The only downside to me is 78 west isn't the best road with lot's of construction. Good luck and Enjoy whatever you decide to do!

![]() Brick and mortar stores that also have a catalogue component are more likely to have a wider selection of products compared to a local retail store. Local stores have tackle that is more suitable for local fishing. The extraneous lures and gadgets that the big stores have are not likely to be on the shelves of the smaller local merchants. They focus on what works for their area. Their inventory of those items is likely to be larger than the stores that service a world-wide customer base.
A trip to a Bass Pro or Cabelas is more of an "experience" for those of us traveling there from around here. I don't need to drive 100 miles to buy something I can get close to home. After the expense of gas and tolls, any savings on a sale item at one of the big stores is wiped out. Some of the larger local sporting goods' stores occasionally run sales on certain products that are also connected with a manufacturers' rebate; which makes a purchase a "no-brainer'. Berkley often has great rebate offers and I've bought "Gulp" products for next to nothing at one of the big stores. One of the anchor stores in the new development (when and if it ever gets done) in Sayerville is a Bass Pro. That one store will greatly affect the local tackle stores' survival. What will help the survival of the smaller businesses, however, will be the store owners' knowledge and service which the bigger stores sorely lack. |

![]() I would go to PA for more of everything type of selection. Last time there they were low on Gun and amo.
If your going to ac for some gaming stop at tackle direct which it pretty close. That place is one stop shopping for salt and fresh water never see a bigger and better selection.
