![]() Spent a few days on block island earlier this week with my family (3 kids and the misses) plus my mother and father. At night, after the kids went to bed, me and the lady jigged about 50 gorgeous squid while punishing uncle Tito and cervezas. Good fun. She even caught a squid money shot right across the face even after I told her to let them ink out before slinging them onto the dock.
Fast forward to today... I packed the car to leave Montauk and stopped by the boat to say goodbye. He already had half the lines off the boat. "I'm going fishing. Its too hot at the dock," he said to me. My retort "use them fresh block island squid." He smiled and nodded... off I went and off he went. Took me 4 hours to get home. No more than 10 min home I receive a text and a call. I answered the call first. It was my dad. He goes "did you get it?" "Get what?", I said back. "The pic I just sent you!", he yelled into the phone. So I check and there she was in her big fat flat glory. All 14 lbs of her. 33 inches in length. The biggest of his life and he just turned a ripe 71 at the end of July. My jaw dropped...prob ate a few bugs. But goddamn do I wish I was on the boat to see it! I asked if he used the block island squids we jigged up. He goes, "you bet your ass I did. She slurped back a whole 10"er!" I'm glad I played a role but he'll bask in his ever-growing legendary Montauk glory once more, grasping his mantle of epic father-ism and as one of the best damn fisherman I've been fortunate enough to know and admire. Everyday I know how lucky I am to have a father who taught me to fish... he doesnt read this board but, heres to you dad. Congrats on a gorgeous doormat. Pic below. Felt it was worth a share...

![]() Well done. I put the net to the biggest fish I've ever seen first hand and that was at least 10 years ago, they don't come often. Bask in the glory my friend! Well done Dad!
