Default Barnegat bay Stripers

After a long and unproductive session out front Thursday night into Friday morning I did some exploring on the west side of the bay Friday evening. Checked out some promising areas and got on an excellent light tackle topwater bite. Most were 18 to 20 inches but got a couple a little bigger and it got really good as it got dark. Went back Saturday morning for more of the same but it slowed up fast after sunrise. Saturday night the wind came up and only got one fish. It was fun getting them worked up after they kept missing my lure. The Bass fishing in Barnegat bay has been very good this spring and fall. Mostly small on the westside and some bigger on the eastside.

Hoping to get down at the end of the week, would have assumed the action was on the outside or in the inlet. Thanks for the quick report.

I tried same kinda plan in Great Bay and it was dead. Switched to clams and got covered up in mini sand sharks. Water is still very warm

Seemed to be pretty widespread. The bite was more about moving water and conditions, even had some action way in the back but the fish got smaller. Good luck this weekend.

Sorry to hear you didn't get them. I was trying areas I never fished and was lucky to get the right place at the right time. Great Bay is some good fishing.

Friday night at my marina, I heard some decent splashes so I turned on the spreader lights. All out Shad blitz and if I could get the lure past them I was able to pluck 18-20 inch bass. That was on the Manasquan River. Match the tackle to the size of the fish and it’s a blast!

The hickory shad have been around for over a month now and they are really becoming pests in the back!
