Default 09/14 Report

Fun day filled with rod bending and drag screaming action today on a NS’s special Bonito/False Albacore/Mahi trip. Even though we didn’t find any bonito or mahi, we did have a good pick of false albacore in the morning. The first few minutes of fishing yielded a mixture of #4-6 bluefish & false albacore. I hooked up with a bluefish on my first drop and had my first false albacore a few drops later. Added one more of each all on a 1.25 ounce pink Epoxy jig. I then changed to one of the 2 rods I had picked up over the spring/summer that I hadn’t fished yet. The first was a GLoomis E6X 844S F. I first tied on a 4 inch pink Tsunami Split Tail that that I was able to post the cherry’ on the rod the a false albacore. But since the seas were up and it was a windy I switched to a 5 inch version which is slightly heavier. This gave up 2 more albies. It was now time to get the skunk off the other rod a ODM Back Bay 7’6” spinner. I tied on a #2 Long Deadly Dick and although it took some time for them to bite again, I picked up 2 more albies on back to back casts. The bite died by 11 so we made a small wiggle. Once back to fishing iwe had a good 20-30 spurt of fast & furious bluefish action. Once that slowed there were some nice out of season caught and released. By now the north wind was kicking up pretty good and seas were getting bouncy, so we called it a day. I ended the day with 7 albies, 6 bluefish and 3 sea bass (released)
