Default NJ Stocking Program

Most Trout Waters Close To Fishing Tomorrow
Monday, March 23
The Division has begun preseason trout stocking and most trout waters will close to fishing. As stocking trucks are rolling we remind you to please adhere to safe social distancing practices while enjoying the outdoors. This includes not approaching staff to get a look at the fish and ask questions. The Division wants to ensure the safety of the public, and our staff distributing trout, during this time.
Remember: while enjoying the outdoors please do not congregate in groups on trails, in parking areas or other common areas.

For more information on this season's stocking check the Spring Trout Stocking Information page. Consult the Freshwater Digest pages 20-23, for waters which remain open.

Talking Re: NJ Stocking Program

Thank you Gerry! Man, there were a lot of anglers out on Saturday. They caught lots of fish too. I would say 90% of the stocked Rainbows were released from what I saw. Good stuff!

I had a 1/4 mile of Musconetcong all to myself on Saturday. It was the best non opening day/opening day I've ever had. Lots of cookie cutter sized rainbows all released and no one else around. Sunday was the complete opposite. Lots of fishermen, not as many fish but I did see the tell-tale remains of fish that were harvested. I was surprised that several normally heavily fished spots had no one fishing at them. I fished one popular spot that should have been stocked rather well, but did not find the number of trout that should have been there after an opening day stocking. No one else was there and there were no signs that it had been fished either.........no boot prints, no tire tracks. In three weeks, the fish should be well-settled and hungry. Let's just hope they are not all in one hole and all gone by 8:30.
