![]() A little over 10 years of only black fishing in NJ and I finally found my first DD in Cape May on a non sponsor party boat on Saturday. Let me start of by saying I’m sure I’ve had a few DD shake my line but I suck and never hook the big guys.
The day was relatively slow with a picky bite. It didn’t matter if it was a jig or a rig. It seems stopping at fishermen’s den in the early am to get some white leggers paid off as this pig took a whole white legger, medium size with legs on and shell off. Fish made three big digs back to the bottom and avoided the net once before finally hitting the deck. It was a long time in the making and certainly a fish i pit the time in for. Fish came in at 13.7 pounds was 27 inches long and had a 19 inch girth Last edited by hookset; 12-28-2019 at 09:43 PM.. |

![]() Sweet piggy there Hookset! I think you are correct about the white crabs giving you an advantage... Did she hit a jig or a rig?

![]() the current started to scream in the afternoon and I had to put the jig away. A good old fashion slider rig was the ticket

![]() Gotcha. We had some weird conditions as well. One ounce jig, line would get caught in the current, hard to feel it on the bottom. Switched over to a rig for a while but no love. Put on a 2 ounce jig much better feel and had 2 quick keepers at that was it for me for the day.... 20 guys on board and of the 8 keepers, 4 and the pool winner was on whites. Some guys using Shrimp we’re getting more bites but mostly shorts.
Congrats on your DD and hopefully the first of many more..
