Default Keyport Seahawk - Last of season tog for us

With the weather not really cooperating, we got out 2 of the last 4 days we had available to tog fish this season...and even those two days, the conditions weren't that favorable haha.

Friday we headed out and when we got to the mouth of the bay we thought for sure we had made a terrible mistake even trying to fish in the super chop that we saw. We thought about cutting our losses and heading back but instead just went for it... We had a little trouble staying anchored, but after dealing with that the bite was surprisingly good and we two man limited out by around noon! Bait rigs with heavy weights were needed to get the job done.

Saturday we headed out again and instead of a bad chop we were greeted with a swell...it wasn't quite as bad as the chop from the day before, but I sure did put a hampering on the tog bite! I've never skin hooked, outside of the mouth hooked, and hook and dropped so many tog... they just weren't biting anything we tried the right way. But we fought through it and picked away ending up with 5 keepers and probably dropping 3 other keepers that were most likely barely hooked from the weird bite.

All in all a short but productive tog season for us with 3 trips, 25 keepers for two guys and I nailed my PB preseason as well so i'll take it! Now on to a few charter boat trips!

Friday was rougher, but i guess because it was more of a chop than a swell, the bottom bite was very good. Saturday was a swell and the bite definitely suffered, but we still managed an ok day i guess. There was a lot of bird activity out from the bay friday, but we just couldn't fish it. The birds were trying to fly away with adult sized bunker which i was kind of surprised to see. We were getting thrown around so much, we didn't try for long though.

Funny how these fish turn on and off.... Chewing their heads off and practically committing suicide one minute, you get a wind shift or the current stops or starts and it's dead...

Also frustrating when they won't commit to a bait and all they want to do is push it around or peck at it.

The jig has saved the day for us a few times.... You put down a rig let it sit and 10 mins later you pull it up just to check your bait and it hasn't been touched. Put down a jig in the exact same spot and WHAM!!

You have one great day once and a while when everything lines up and that's what sucks you into coming back.

The struggle is real my friends

yeah it's def worth having a jig rod and a bait rig rod both set up so you can switch back and forth, they no doubt prefer one or the other at any given time!

For sure Chrisper.... And when they're really finicky, sometimes they want the bait cut a certain way... Shell on or off, legs on or off.... I'd love to know what the hell they're thinking down there...

- MMMMM Here's a piece of crab that fell next to me.
- OOOOOOOWWWH..... It has the shell and legs off....
- HMMMM... the Bergals like it but they like anything
- I'm a leg man myself but I'll go push it around a little just for the hell of it.
- OH MAMA!! Now here's what I like... A crab on a jig with legs and shell on..
- WHAM!
- AH SHIT..... WHAT'S THIS METAL THING STUCK IN MY LIP!!
