I Am thinking about clamming on the knoll in the next few days. Has anyone tried there yet?

Good a place as any to start although it's typically better there in late May but every year is different, a moving tide will be best. You might also consider bringing some jigs/shads for casting and trolling stuff for Plan B just in case...

I was just talking to someone the other day about how back in the ‘90’s the spring bass bite was bunker chunking on the Knoll in May and June. Didn’t matter if you used fresh or frozen bunker, you always seemed to catch.

Back then (in the ‘90s), clamming was an early season approach used in the back bay. Later on in the 2000’s clamming became the rage on Romer’s Shoal and the False Hook Bar. But since Sandy both those locales no longer produce a clam bite as it seemed Sandy wiped out the clam beds.

There has been a slight resurgence in the clam bite-especially in the mid Bay Area (at least for me) the past two springs.

If I were going to fish the Knoll today, I’d bring both clams and bunker.

Anchoring on the knoll can be a pain nowadays when the bite is on there... there will be two million boats pulling mojos. Be careful

I will only fish on weekdays. That should cut down the crowd a bit. If people want to troll around me I hope they don't expect to get back their rigs back when they snag my anchor line. I certainly won't pull my anchor to help then out.

Haha you would think, but i always say “does anybody work?” when it looks like a scene from jaws out there mid week, every time. I guess everyone works rotating shift work or has unlimited sick time.

I hope retirement will give me the freedom to spend more time on the water.
