Default fishing in Jamaica

I'm heading to Jamaica for a few days first week in April. Can anyone recommend a charter down there in the Montego Bay area for a 1 man charter? Maybe a smaller boat to save some money seeing as its just gonna be me. Searched on here and found a thread from a few years ago saying save your money.. is that still true?

Probably will not help, I fished there on my first honeymoon lol, been married 3 times. All we caught was a tiny baracuda on 80 size gear. Most got seasaick. The locals
Did not seem to care too much. Unless you get a good contact may be difficult. Good luck , let us know if you get out.

I am NOT an expert, and have never been there, but there is a ton of information online about how badly Jamaica has been overfished.. I just read that its one of most severely overfished nations in the entire world.. The island is poor, and the sea is pretty much all a lot of people have as a food source.. i am sure there are some good captains there that can put you on fish, but the island in general is no longer a serious "destination nation" for fishermen, and hasn't been for a long time.. Lots of pollution problems as well for nearshore waters.. bob

Stay in your resort, Jamaica has one of the highest murder rates in the world. Your chances of catching a fish are about the same as being tossed overboard to feed those fish.

sounds like staying in your resort and enjoying the locals' weed stash might be the way to go.

I'd be concerned for some of the same reasons mentioned above... That and everything in Jamaica outside the hotels are in disrepair and held together with spit and glue. I can't imagine what a Jamaican charter boats look like, but probably not as safe and held to the same standards as here..

Stayed in Jamaica twice.Once Sandals in Whitehouse south coast.Went out on a split charter. The boat and tackle were crap.Trolled around for hours caught one small fish.Stayed at Sandals Ocho Rios. Watched the same charter boat come pick people up at the resort for a couple of days. The only thing they caught was a small mahi. I didn't go fishing.Don't waste your time or money fishing.
