![]() Need to install one on my 21WA O/B powered boat. Old age/fat ass/bad knees making it hard to flip over the gunnel any more....
![]() Looking for reccos on what you guys have. Not sure if I should go with a portable or permanent mount type? If permanent on the port or starboard side? Does it matter? Thanks boys

![]() I don't think port or starboard matters..... I have a portable one that goes over the gunnel which is is fine for us since we don't use the boat to swim or ski and it's just used for emergencies....
If I were to install something permanent it would be these type of transom steps but not sure that would work for your outboard boat... https://www.westmarine.com/buy/sea-d...iABEgK0v_D_BwE

![]() If you're worried about going overboard it has to be accessible from the water 100% of the time.
And since it's a just in case thing get minimal since its also going to just be in way 99.99% of time too. On the tow boat with had a diver ladder. It is a swing up/down single vertical pipe with 3 or 4 steps. The steps are perpendicular piping. Looking like a football lace pattern. Swings off swim platform and into the water It's small and would work perfect in a jam. As long as boat is not chugging away from you in gear. Then you are simply screwed. ![]() The alternative (if you have an O/B) is use the motor to climb up on the cavitation plate.

![]() Cap Frank def something I looked at. BUT .......nothing to do with being concerned with going over accidentally. Don’t ski off the boat but spend a lot of time at Skeleton Hill and the Hartshorne cut. Getting in/out is not a flip over the side thing anymore..
