![]() Was curious how much anchor line most of you carry for anchoring on SHR and some of the inshore rough patches. My sense is that I would need at least 300' but 400' would be better. Also, is a wreck anchor necessary when not dropping right on a wreck? Thanks for sharing!

![]() You should be able to get away with 150 to 200 feet on the SHR. You’ll need at least a 10 foot length of chain, 15 would be better.
A grapple wreck anchor is what you need if you want to grapple right over a wreck otherwise you can use your Danforth set it outside the wreck, drift back and come tight over the wreck.

![]() Thanks for the quick reply Gerry. It confirms my suspicions. I currently have 200' with 10' of chain so I should be good for this season at least. Thanks again.

![]() IMO fishing the SHR is easily done with a rebar wreck anchor. and way less line.
Many times you can fish those rubble piles in 55' of water with less than 100' of line out. ( my wreck anchors are attacked to 150' lengths) I don't use much chain when using a wreck anchor as the chain gets caught in the rubble too often. usually I only use about 4' of chain attached to a reverse pull rebar 6 tine anchor. That small piece of chain is just for abrasion resistance not to drive the anchor down. . it sets fast, allows little scope so you stay on the piece. .
