![]() I have tons of butterfly and hammered diamond jigs. One thing I realized I do not have is anything with a glow finish—the type that has luminescence and has to be charged periodically with a UV or LED flashlight. Has anyone had real noticeable difference with these? Figure the glow would mimic a squid when jigging deep.
Thanks |

![]() I have had some good luck with the Braid slammer glow mackerel jig in the 7oz and the 10 oz. Just had to change the hook to a stronger single hook. It has worked best for me at night.

![]() And yes there were times I have done better than guys using jigs that didn't glow, and there were times I felt the glow jig was helping others get bit. Most important for me when jigging tuna is to have confidence in the lure you are using. Hope this helps.

![]() First, agree 100% on the confidence thing. It’s so important to maintain the energy and commitment to literally will a jig bite. And I strongly believe the jigging gets the chunk bite going too if it’s slow.
That being said, I have tons of great butterfly and diamond jigs of every variety and the glow jig I have avoided buying bc thought it was a gimmick even though it makes some sense. Hoping others chime in on this as well as often times the jig bite is 100 fr or deeper so how could the tuna see the pattern of the jig? If it’s Luminescent it seems like a no-brained I have resisted for too long. |

![]() Glow jigs are definitely a worthwhile addition to any offshore anglers lure selection , on occasion they have made my day . Having said that I don’t use glow per say but the UV variety are my choice .
Bear in mind many tuna are taken on standard chrome jigs so like anything else Each has there time n place ! I personally feel nite or deepwater these can give you an edge . |

![]() Not a big jig man but I've used hand-painted tuna & bluefish jigs with success & also non-glow---about fifty-fifty for me with tuna(but hammered the blues). Bought glow paint locally(Pa) sanded, painted jigs myself. Repainted when needed--they worked well. Just an idea for you to entertain...

![]() Thanks for the replies. Would like to know if glow jigs held a noticeable advantage over people jogging non-glow jigs at the same time. Trying to determine hype and conjecture vs reality.

![]() I love to jig for tuna. I have been successful at it. I think the glow jigs are not necessary and I own none. I like three jigs. Shimano Butterfly flatside jigs, fcl labo sl, & Hot's drift tune jigs. I think pink, blue, & silver produce best. Hopefully my post is helpful.

![]() Yes, thank you. Just seemed logical that having luminescence would help but just never heard much endorsement from the hard core jigging enthusiasts.

![]() I've always got by with the chrome hammered jig and I've caught best with them. I was on an open boat about 20 years ago that the only thing they wanted was a glow jig. I stood by guys catching while I got nothing. So as Captain Lou said everything has its time and place. If I see guys catching on beef jerky and I'm not I'm gonna try beef jerky.
