Default Tuff Mahi Fishing

Well went on Thursday and didn't think it would be great and it did not disappoint. Was watching the sat shots earlier in the week when we had some nice clean blue water in the mid to near shore grounds so I scheduled the day off.. As luck would have it a day or 2 before we left, looked at the shots and the water was gone but since I took the day off we decided to go anyway. Netted some peanuts for pot hopping, put them in the live well and headed off to the grounds.

Sat shots were right on... Dingy water with hardly any visibility, lots of tree branches and few patio chairs and other stuff out there from the run off and rain we've had of late.. Set out the trolling gear and trolled around the pots for a few hours hoping someone was home. All we had to show for that was one chicken Mahi which ate a jet that was as big as he was. Had some buddy boats out there and they were struggling too.

Switched over to pot hoping, throwing some live nuts and working a bunch of pots for an hour or two with no luck there either.. Decided to pull the plug and ran inshore to hopefully put some kinda meat in the boat...

We took a few drifts, picked up 4 nice keeper Fluke on both Bucktails and live peanuts and called it a day...

A nice day comfortable day on the water with near perfect wind conditions but it was Africa hot back at the dock.

Oh well.. Nice to be out of sight of land for a change and still plenty of time left in the season to get a few more trips in. It's looking like the blue water might be moving back in so stay tuned for more Mahi adventures.

And no wise cracks Murr

Did the same thing in the middle grounds. A few Mahi on the pots off peanuts, and lost a real nice Wahoo on the troll in the real clean water. Had him on for a bit then he jumped and parted the 130 leader.

Thumbs up Re: Tuff Mahi Fishing

You would think with all the life inshore like Spanish mackerel and Bonito that the mid shore would be fishing well, guess not. Thanx for the report.

Nice try Gerry. Don't give up on the Mahi, I'm hoping this Northeast blow is going to stir up the mid range area. I was bottom fishing the Mud hole today and the water was off color but it was pretty clean about 7 miles out. They are here this year and some good sized too. I think it should be good in September.
