Default Roosters Flukin 8-2-2018

Winds variable, calm seas, cloudy with some sun made for an enjoyable fishing trip this morning. Tom and I were on a scouting trip for an upcoming family Fluke trip with Tom`s grandchildren and others. There was no action at the Atlantic Highlands Harbor breakwater and the move to the Shrewsbury Channel proved to be the same. Someone in a rental boat pointed to Ammo Pier and off we went.
We pulled up to the white cans and let the tide and wind take us in about seventeen feet of water. A slow pick developed and the short Fluke were coming over the gunnel along with five doggies, two Sea Robins, one Snapper Blue. As the morning wore on Tom landed a twenty-one inch Fluke followed soon after by a eighteen inch Fluke. It took a while but we stuck with the area and I landed a twenty inch Fluke soon followed by a eighteen inch Fluke, not too bad for a scouting trip.Small Killies worked well as did Tom`s bucktail with a strip of Sea Robin. Back in at noon. The water in the harbor has cleared pretty well. Pete

I was fishing the same general area and had a good day - not great, but very enjoyable with a few keepers on gulp. I honestly don't understand all these dire weather forecasts. When I woke up this morning and saw the small craft advisory posted I almost canceled my trip. But sometimes ya just gotta fish. Glad I did - it was a beautiful morning.
