Default Midshore Tomorrow

Looking to run a midshore trip tomorrow for Mahi and Bluefin. Looking to stay within 40 to 50 miles of BI due to time constraints. Anyone been picking up any mahi in these areas yet? Pots in glory are or bluefin around the princess.
First post. thanks for the add

Welcome Perfect!!

Looks like one of our Sponsor's, Freddy on Andrea's Toy had his first Mahi of the year... It was in the Canyon but a good sign... Might be a couple weeks before the Mahi move in closer and have not heard of any Bluefin recently and it's getting kind of warm for them now...

Here's a Chloro (water color) shot courtesy of one of our other sponsors www.ripcharts.com . The circle on the bottom right is the Glory Hole and waters not looking very blue.

If any of you are interested in satellite services, I highly recommend them... Their phone app is killer and you can download the charts/images to your phone and use them even outside of cell service. They also include some basic built in navigation function for your phone which is really handy when you're out on the boat and navigating to one of your spots...

thanks for the intel Gerry. I would normally have no problems running to the canyon but time is tight tomorrow. Hopefully the water will clear up and the mahi will move more inshore

Picking up what you're laying down Perfect!!

My limit for an easy day trip is the Monster or Glory if I'm forced to... I usually run in mid August to early Sept when temps and blue water are more favorable.

FWIW I've had better luck with the Mahi on the west side and further north of there. They don't like my spread but potting them with bait seems to work better then trolling.

Last year we saw some big bulls there but they wouldn't eat and we threw everything but the kitchen sink at them.. Next time that happens going to try some surface poppers.

Best of luck and keep in touch.

Lob a whole rigged small ballyhoo at the bigger fish (we sometimes add a 1 to 2 oz egg sinker, too). Keep the reel in free spool and move the boat away from the pot. Given distance those bigger mahi cannot resist a bally. Fastest growing fish in our waters = voracious appetite. They do not turn down a big easy meal...

When trolling remember safety lines, that is all...

Well the weather was just a tad off yesterday. Loaded up with live peanuts on the Cape Horn and broke the inlet at 6am. Headed north towards the Glory and the seas were not very favorable. Made a stop at a 20 mile wreck and limited out on sea bass real quick. Also grabbed 28 ling. Oh well next time
