Default Nice to see Ling.

This post is not to compare the quality to the ling fishery in past years to more recent, but to say that it is nice to see that the ling are around. My brother and I have caught quite a few this year and have seen many more caught. I enjoy catching and eating ling and would encourage anyone to target them while out fishing. I know there are many techniques that people use to keep fish fresh. A good way to keep ling in the freezer is to freeze the fillets in a small block of ice rather then in a bag. This will keep meat in good shape and also no freezer burn. Hope you all stay safe out there.

Nice post and I agree. It was nice to get a little bonus when out for some sea bass this year.

Never tried this technique before. Wouldn't the ling filet act like a sponge while defrosting and absorb all that fresh water?

That is a good point about water absorption. I have found it stays better, maybe it does and then releases when defrosted. Someone else may have a way better way. I just figured I would put out a method I use in case anyone is looking for a alternative.

Thumbs up Re: Nice to see Ling.

Same way my dad used to freeze then. He would cut a 1/2 gal. milk carton in half and fill it with Ling filets and water. Never noticed a problem with water absorption. At my house it has been a while since I have had to worry about freezing any Ling. Usually just kept on ice in the fridge, until I am ready to fry them up!
