I was out there Tuesday. Whole boat got the skunk. Yesterday 1 cod was caught but in true diehard fisherman form I'll be back there Saturday.

Can't catch them on the couch. 🎣

Fishing for cod this winter definitely a lesson in frustration , that being said there have been some very good days sandwiched in between the tough ones , if u pull off one of those then it’s a worth it .
Can’t catch em on the couch !

Block Island Winter Cod

Capt Carl reports a very tough day on the cod grounds. We were in constant search mode looking for the big herd but never found them. We made many drops and worked the areas hard to no avail. We know they are here somewhere and will continue to fish hard until we find them! Unfortunately we are CANCELLED for tomorrow's trip due to weather. We are looking to get back out there on Monday.

Other side of the coin...

Capt. Scott was very happy to report a much improved upswing in the winter Codfishing. The weather and temperature was very nice today. Here are some of the highlights from today outing...

We had 60 plus cod for the day, and a welcomed variety of Ling & Pollock. Lots of shorts to keep rods bent all day.

Pool fish was 23lbs caught by Capt Pat from D@#&&^%$&*s out of NJ. It was a solid day of Codfishing for the close to sold out crowd. Capt. Scott Explored areas further to the southeast then normal.

We will not be sailing Sunday or Monday due the high winds and rough seas. Our next scheduled trip will take place on Tuesday, Feb. 13 at 5 am. Please remember to book tickets online at @###@#$$%^%$

As always with Cod, depends on the day, time ,place, boat etc..
Thats one reason a lot of fishermen don't bother with them these days... Might be a long ride without a touch.. OR, you might load up if you hit it just right..

I was on my way down a few times past couple years, but always talk myself out of it.. Too many bad days when the entire boat gets skunked ,,,

Notice the report stated the boat was "almost sold out".. With 60 Cod on a sold out boat, I will wager a lot of guys went home without anything to show.. I guess it depends on how bad you want to fish...bob

Thumbs up Re: ns to Block Island

Here it is in a nutshell;
My group of 4 managed 10 cod, 4 pollock and a bunch of ling. I think I heard the boat might have had 60 keeper cod and a couple dozen pollock. Maybe a few more. Finished off on a pile of some monster, tasty ling. Some had to go 3lbs +.Capt took us to the Northeast cod wrecks instead of block after all the dead reports. Gamble, I would say, paid off for Capt Jeff. He ran us damn near to Nantucket which is about another hour farther at least. A great crew and always a safe ride on that boat. Maria in the galley can't be beat either, had some tasty chilli and burgers throughout the day.
