These type of actions is why I choose not to go on the offshore seabass trips. In my opinion, there's really no way to stop these idiots from taking more than your legally allowed. Yes, I know and everybody else knows the seabass population is very healthy, but the law is the law. I really don't want to subject myself to being searched by the f&g. Not because I'm breaking the law, but because of the embarrasement of being on a boat with a few individuals who think of no one but themselves. In the long run, they are tarnishing the reputation of all the law abiding fishermen. It's another sad day for all.

I too have been on a few of these trips over the years. I've seen guys bringing 98 qt. coolers on board and seen them filled to the top when they leave. We may not agree with the regulations, but that is no reason to break the law, and those that break the laws should be prosecuted to the fullest. Should we become outlaws because a few lawmakers don't know a thing about making game and fishing regulations. I for one will not and I have absolutely no respect for those that do. Regardless of the laws and regulations, we should only participate in activities that we can afford, and only take game or fish that we and our families will consume over a reasonable period of time. I am jumping off the soap box now guys.........

We went on this boat last week. The creel limits are Posted in the cabin. He gave out the info on the hailer twice that SB was limited to 15 fish.

I don't blame the captain.

LAWS can be changed. 15 fish reduces most to become pirates. Beef at NMFS not the anglers. Wait till all your limits are reduced to nothing, that is what is going to happen in the end. Divided we fall.

15 is too many if you ask me. Nobody will agree whith me but keeping more than that will just do the same thing that we did with cod macks and ling in the past year. wondering where they all went? we killed them off not the commercial guys. us. If we dont take care of seabass you can say bye bye to winter fishing.

Here's my take.. these are DAMN BIG fish.. 3 4 and 5 pound sea bass, 1 2 3 pound porgies, big ling... How much fish does anyone really need?.. We are talking about 30 BIG pieces of fish here, just for the sea bass, not figuring other species like porgies, ling, blues etc that are taken on these trips.... Please don't think we can't hurt populations of these offshore fish.We can... Think about the thousands of these big fish caught every day out there on the offshore wrecks.. Lets say 40 guys get their limit..

Thats 600 big sea bass for one boat, one day.. If 5 boats from NY and NJ sail on a given day and all boats only take 40 guys, Thats 3,000 sea bass, in one day... Think about the 10's of thousands of fish taken off these wrecks in the 2 months season,, Those fish aren't concentrated everywhere. They are concentrated on certain wrecks, certain bottom structure in certain temp or feed zones.. The captains are great at locating them, and the anglers are great at catching them. We can dent those populations of big breeders, like it or not,,

15 is a decent limit.. 15 Big bass, maybe 15 or 20 big scup, several blues, maybe a ling or pollack and a few big foot long bergalls??.. Really, how much meat do we need ?.... These guys should be ashamed, honestly. Just greedy.. bob

How many do they need? Come on, this is about the money not stocking the freezer for most of them. These are prized fish in Chinatown.
