There's no combination that i won't fish so i'm fine with whatever! cold ice, great, not cold enough fish the deep lakes with the boat, windy hit the streams for trout, whatever it's all good but summer can F off now! Though the fish don't seem to care much, the shorter days alone seem to be turning them on to fall patterns even though the surface is freaking boiling. Gotta get out on the ice as much as can sitting around waiting for 5+ inches of ice seems to be rare in NJ past couple years, the valley last time it froze over good 7-8 years ago there was 150+ people out there fishing. One of the craziest things I saw in NJ..... Head north for Lakers to schroon!

i was on good ice at the valley i think 3 years ago or maybe 4 can't remember but it was fairly recent. either way it's rare, you're right. I'd rather jig from my boat than pack into the those first few ice fishing spots. It just needs to go one way or the other, this partial freezing crap just sucks the past 2 years.

sage advice, I like where your head is at . its a great reason to buy more tackle . in thirty years of fishing I never owned any ice fishing gear . ill change that!!! im willing to give it a shot. cold don't bother me. we fish for striped bass up in Connecticut thru the winter .
