Gambler Saturdays last Striker trip
Pulled in to a cold , wet , and foggy lot with 20+ other eager fishermen. Capt. Bob turned south as we broke the inlet with limited visibility. We took a long ride not seeing much on the electronics . There were few birds when we could see. Some Loons , Scoters , and the odd Gull flushing in front of us. We stopped on some scattered marks to no avail . continued down the beach and stopped on a pile of Stripes tight to the bottom. The rental rod next to me bends over and the drag sings. A 34" Striper comes over the rail. Pics taken and back she goes . Saw one other dropped in a couple of drifts. Capt . Bob put us back on the hunt. We zig zaged down the beach and started seeing birds sitting on the surface. We read some sort of bait and Stripers stacked on the bottom. Capt. Bob put her on a drift. I fired out my naked Ava 47 and got hammered 10 cranks in. All around me others were in battles of their own. I got my slot and most of the others were keepers. We caught a few on every drift until it was time to go. The pool fish was 34". Everyone went home with fillets.
It never really rained but the fog drizzle stayed around. We had good drifting conditions all day. Only saw one boat all day. No surface action. Caught some Dogfish. Saw feeding Whitewing Surf Scoters around where we caught most of our fish. The group of fishermen in the port stern put a serious hurting on the fish.
I would like to thank Capt. Bob, Steve, and Caden for a great last trip of the season. I would also like to thank Capt. Mike, Capt. Jeff, Capt. Walt, Capt. Chris, Jay, Joe, James, and the rest of the Mighty Gambler Crew for making this ol man feel a lot younger. Its an honor and privilege to share deck space with you all and all the Gambler Fisher persons. Looking forward to seeing you all in the Spring.
