Default Any reports out there on the mid/inshore tuna bite?

Was wondering if anyone has heard anything, or had any luck with inshore to midshore tuna bite recently? I know it seems to be lighting up out at the Canyon(s), but I can't venture that far in my boat. This is my first year taking a crack at tuna, and have had some luck during the summer trolling a few of the lumps/ridges 15-20 miles out of Barnegat Inlet. Wasn't sure if the fish tend to stop venturing in a little closer by this time of the year.

Pretty sure with the temps dropping top the mid 60s in the Mudhole, warmer water species like Mahi and Yellowfin Tunas have moved out to the warmer waters of the canyons. Your best inside of the canyons and not sure if they are around yet, is going to be Bluefin. This is the time of the year where the big boys come out to play, it's very specialized and you'll need the right equipment to do battle with them.

Thanks for your reply. I had a feeling they’d be moving more toward the Gulf Stream. Bluefin are actually the only ones I’ve run into so far this year. Nothing too crazy, 30-40” range. But I was hoping to hear there is still a few being picked up inshore, and go catch another before the end of the season.

This time of year the bluefin can be anywhere. I heard of a few caught close in and out in the Mudhole. If you don't get any good reports, like I was told a while ago, don't read the report make it. If there is bait around, there could be bluefins. If you have the weather, make a run.

There are yellowfin in the shallows right now. 45-60 miles off. Basically just look for the whales. Bluefin mixed in too. I believe the gambler was on this bite too the past couple trips.
