Default Striper Time!!

If you've ever wanted to catch a Striper, these next several weeks is usually one of your best chances to do so. The fall run is in full swing on our beaches and bays.

NJ is probably your best opportunity these days as our fishery is arguably the best Striper fishery in the world. Our local party and charter boats here are into them good so if want to get into this great fishery you don't need a thing, they'll supply everything.

This time of year the fishing varies.... Live Bunker, Live Eels, Shad Bodies, Flutter Spoons will all work... Later on the jig fishing kicks in, especially when the Sand Eels show up.

My favorites lures are Flutter Spoons and as the season wears on and the Sand Eels show up, the Savage Sand Eel imitations are where it's at... How about you?

Striped bass fishing in NJ has been fantastic. A lot has to due with the huge amount of bait in our waters plus no commercial fishing. My favorite way to catch them is top waters followed by shads or even old school Ava 27's. Flutter spoons work great also but are a lot of work. And if the bass are scattered trolling Mojo's get's them every time. The bass are here already. It's just going to get better. Tight Lines!

-Flutter Spoons
-Metal Lips (both full sized & smaller ones that mimic peanut bunker)
-Trollers
-Large Spook Type plugs
-Shads/Paddletails (Tsunami, NLBNs, EliasV, Hogy Pro Thumpers, Al Gags)
-Pencil Poppers
-3 ounce white Cripple Herring
-2 & 4 ounce castable Mojo’s
-Twitch/Glide baits
-Nomad Vertrex (2 larger sizes, crushed them on this bait last fall)

All go in my bag this time of year when the bass are on bunker & peanuts

-Ava jigs
-Tsunami Sand Eels
-7” Dartspins
-Bill Hurley Sand Eels

Are added when they are on sand eels

And if we get a late season showing of herring then I’ll add 5 & 7 ounce Krocodile spoons.

I love reading this forum even though I’m in Maine. The stripers leave us in late September early October and you are still hauling in cows. You have shown the world how to manage a fishery. Tight lines!
