Default Fluke and shad

Went fishing 🎣 in Manasquan Inlet this evening on a cold, sunny day with a strong east wind. Tide went out, then came back in. Ten surfers 🏄*♀️ were in the pocket. Two spear fishermen had blackfish and flounder on a stringer. Brant, loons, double crested cormorants, and oystercatchers were nearby. I caught, tagged and released an out of season, undersized fluke with a plain hook Ava A-17. Landed a hickory shad with brother John’s homemade synthetic buck tail teaser.

Your posts are always very detailed with interesting pictures. Not sure, but your shad looks more like a blue back herring then a shad but it's hard to tell the difference between the two. If you catch them frequently at the inlet, you might want to have another setup ready to go and live line that off the tip of the jetty or on the pocket side of the North jetty. They are big striper candy.

I know we had a mild winter but it's pretty amazing that we're still in April and you caught a fluke that are less active this time of year with the colder water temperatures on a jig. Obviously it's early and they're moving into the warm water bays but to catch one on a moving metal jig is still pretty impressive and unusual. Good report.

They’ve been actively feeding in the wash for weeks now. Literally in 1-2 feet of water and chasing plugs.

Sounds like an amazing time at Manasquan Inlet 😄 Cold, sunny, and windy but still a great catch! How do ya make those homemade buck tail teasers?

Just tie buck tail on a hook.

Only had one hit in two hours of casting and the hookup escaped. Saw a Point Pleasant fisherman catch and release a gull. Striped bass were caught at Dog Beach on Mag Darters. Spear fishermen had fish 🐟 in a mesh bag.
