So you guys would rather them not check because it’s more government intervention? Seriously? I’ve gotta ask ya when the last time you fished here locally and see what goes on. Have you seen it? First hand? If you did you wouldn’t post what you did.

I have not been there but once this year, but lived there 37 years, and its been only the past few where I don't fish it several times each year,,, the fact remains. I was forever getting stopped, having buckets looked into, boarded for "safety checks" by the CG, NJ Marine Police, as well as municipal marine patrols while I lived there, and many times after I fished in NJ as a NY resident... If you guys enjoy that sort of thing, fine, but yes, in my humble opinion its intrusion, at times bordering on harassment, and the fact that so many intelligent, articulate sportsmen welcome it boggles my mind.. Do you enjoy getting pulled over by the cops for no reason as well?...

Holy **** you just have no clue what goes on here on the bayshore day in day out.

Yes I welcome it. The checks, the stops. My lord, spend a weekend here and you’ll understand. I’ll bow out of this convo now. I’ve said enuff

Its unfortunate you feel that way BB. If you saw what was going on during the spring striper run from the back bay beaches and shorelines you would've been pleading for more fish and game patrols and checks.

Guys walking off the beach with buckets and coolers full of short bass, hiding them in the sand a few feet from where they were fishing, etc. I saw one guy get popped. Prob couldve gotten 100 if they had the staff...every nite... for at least 4 weeks...in just one single area by the Amboys.

I welcome it when I get checked. I also call in poachers. If I see it I'm making the call. They offer rewards for it but I forego them as seeing someone get a coupon and their gear taken away is far more rewarding.

If they observe a violation, I am, by all means ok with it. However, a policeman cannot pull you over just to check if you have done anything illegal ! Stop and frisk was ruled unconstitutional.....

agreed... Poachers? Taking dozens of illegal fish?-throw the book at them.. No problem here.

Yet catch say a fat 17 and 3/4 inch fluke, deeply hooked, and bleeding profusely and decide you don't want to waste it, and you are lumped in with the creeps that catch 30 undersized stripers and keep them all.. I dunno, somehow it doesn't add up.

NJ has a LOT of problems, and yes poachers abound,I realize that.. However, surveillance of the law abiding innocent majority to keep "order" is the playbook of despotic, totalitarian governments, and has NO place in the USA, yet it is becoming commonplace, and sadly, desired and applauded...

Brave new world has been here for a while, and has been embraced.
I am now an older man, actually what many would call an old man I guess, and cannot understand the modern mindset of security/stability at the cost of personal freedom/ individual rights , but many today are willing to make that trade. We wanted this, and we got it... enjoy...

Absolutely no problem with being checked.

Can’t tell you how many short fluke (not gut hooked or 1/8” short) that I have seen being kept while fishing the wall at Manasquan Inlet or how many not even close to being legal blackfish I’ve seen in coolers/buckets along the Pt. Pleasant canal or the south jetty at Barnegat Inlet.

Indeed why is all the activity against boat owners when we all know full well that the urban area shore anglers regularly fish for short stripers and anything else that comes along.
