Default Fishing for skunks

...sort of...
sorry for the late report but got an offer the day before yesterday (friday) to go on an old friend's boat for a trip to the raritan and couldn't refuse. first time out this year and since i didn't have captain duties i could relax and enjoy myself more than usual! got mojos in the water around 7am after a looong ride to my go-to spot and his engines did not respond well to slow trolling so we sniffed around and got zero readings on sonar. found a fleet further away and made our way over with still zero readings so we cut the engines and decided to toss out some chunks and drift. run off within the first 5 min. but hook did not catch. another a little while later, same thing, dropped the bait. made a move and hooked a giant blue that bit through leader boatside. not what we were hoping for but action is action! started a slow backtrack towards home port and ran into a nervous bunker pod. snagged a few to liveline and another runoff and a half a bunker reeled in. two cormorants in the pod diving up and down in the school. what could they be eating? do they swallow foot long bunker???
long ride home but a gorgeous day out with old buddies. needed that after this past crazy covid year. hope my next report turns out better. tight lines y'all
