I'm with Capt. Lou only I use a 5-6 turn surgeons loop & a 12 turn Albright--12 up, 12 back. A mate showed me this variation 3 years ago...quite small diameter, goes through my level wind no sweat...

I have never had a uni to uni fail. It's not difficult, just have to make sure you moisten the mono

Alberto Knot is my choice. Slim knot slides right through the eyes without getting caught and its fairly quick to tie.

I’m using the improved Alberto Knot as well... Most important step is step number 3... If you dont pass the line through the loop the same way it came in the knot will fail...

Yes very good point! That’s a key step for sure.

That's where most go wrong and, as mentioned above, adding a few half hitches with the braid over the mono after the initial knot is cinched can't hurt either...

Reverse Albright formed with a double line loop is all you will need inshore , I developed this knot to be a variation of a very solid knot for PP years ago . Other knots have extra steps and in my opinion are harder to tie , if your breaking this knot you did something wrong ! It's a 30 second knot if that !
Offshore you may wish to go another route but I stuck with this for tuna as well !
Under other circumstances I would got to HC anyway & splice !

I have now been wrapping the braid 8-10 times each way and putting it through the loop at the end twice rather than once. This newer version of the modified Albright or Alberto Knot seems to have done the trick. Thanks again! Paul Haertel

Hmm - Doubling the line through the loop twice sounds like a plan... I guess it works given the size of the fish I saw you and your crew with the other day Paul
