The fines are a joke, they haven't been upgraded since 1970.
I think most people that get fines on a piece of paper just throw it in the trash. Start confiscating ALL gear, make them go before a county judge. |

Unfortunately changing the fines would require getting the state legislature involved, and since they can't touch the monies derived from said fines since those dollars go directly into the dedicated Hunters and Anglers Fund, the pols have no desire to 'waste' their time addressing the situation.
We most definitely need a complete overhaul of the F&W fines and penalties statutes! And, I agree with full confiscation of all equipment in one's possession at the time of the infraction until the court appearance, and then depending on the charges and the outcome the possibility of permanent loss of the equipment/firearms, etc. That's how they operate in NY, and in the north country during the salmon run you will sit in the lockup until you can be seen by the local magistrate. God help you if you get tagged on a Fri evening, you may well sit in lockup until Mon morning. Oh, and unless things have changed in the past few years they only accept cash for any fines. No checks, no plastic. |

The percentage of people summoned blows my mind. When 30% of the fisherman don't have a license something is seriously broken.
don't issue fines just confiscate the gear that will get their attention. I think NY confiscates gear?

I wonder whether Citizen arrest can be enforced to those who violate fishing regulations.

Andy, where did you find the NJ Fish and Wildlife Police blotter?

I think this is all from the NJ conservation officers Facebook page. I was reading through a few myself. Reminds you to treat the resources that much more carefully with so many people out there abusing them.........

Never once had a bad experience when a CPO made contact with me. Always professional, and always level headed. Even when I was unknowingly in the wrong. Keep up the good work, guys. Always makes for some great stories, I'm sure.

I don't really understand the need for a fishing license in some waters. I mean you are going to make people buy a license to fish for carp in the Cooper river in South Jersey ?????
