![]() Hey guys, my 11 year old recently got very into fishing. We live in Bergen county and have fished the duck ponds in Ridgewood and glen rock, and the pond in waldwick. We’ve got an old canoe, but happy to fish from shore. Can anyone suggest some places to try in the area? He’s happy to catch anything but recently got spoiled after catching a few large moths. I am not a freshwater guy- any help would be greatly appreciated. I’m not asking for spot burning, just some general steering. It would be very helpful. Thanks very
Much. |

![]() Not sure how far you are looking to travel but I work in Fort Lee and like to head up to the Ramapo River near Ramapo College. There are a number of places to park along Ramapo Valley Rd (Rt 202) and in addition to the Ramapo river there are a number of ponds with good largemouth fishing.

![]() I find the New Jersey F&W website very informative in such cases.

![]() Overpeck is nice, you can paddle to the Hackensack River and do some fishing there and then come back into Overpeck.

![]() I fish Overpeck quite a bit and would only recommend fishing it from a kayak. The shoreline is currently infested with ticks. The past 3 times I have fished from the bank I found no less than 3 ticks on me each time. Ticks don’t generally bother me (so long as they aren’t deer ticks) but I usually fish on my lunch break and when you are sitting in an important meeting and find multiple ticks crawling up your neck it’s NO fun.
