Default Well this is good

I started a new job this week. I noticed signs in the parking lot warning it was a "flood area, park at your own risk". Today I looked a little closer and the Rockaway River was about 50 feet from the parking lot, with trout stocking signs on the trees.

Next week I'm throwing my fishing gear and waders in the car. Nothing like being able to walk from your office to the river at the end of the work day. I think I will like working here.

You might end up car camping just right at that lot if the fishing is good

know the area well. was good when they stocked brookies but not so much now. besides trout area has smallies and the occasional pickeral. if you follow the river upstream it takes you into downtown where i think they do a better job of stocking. also river is closed mondays til 5pm but i don't think many people read the signs. also good down river in boonton with dams and falls.

I know the Boonton area well. I've been fishing there for years. Never fished this section tho. I get out of work 4:30. By the time I put my waders on and get my gear ready, it will be 5.Looking forward to it tomorrow.

I gave it a shot after work yesterday. At quarter to five there were four other anglers waiting for the 5 p.m. post stocking starting gun. At five we all hit the water. One guy bagged a trout right away, but that was it. An hour later I was alone until a guy with a fly rod showed up and appeard to be nymphing. I saw him bag three stockies in pretty short order.

I think I may break out the fly rod and try some hares ears and pheasant tails later this week. Everyone, including me was fishing the deeper, faster moving pockets but he was fishing the shallow, slower moving banks. Either he was lucky or knew what the hell he was doing. I suspect the latter.

If I was just thrown off a bridge a few hours before, I would chill with my other homies in the same area for a while, just asking WTF!, at least for a while In slow water before I moved Out to deeper... always a go to for a start for me is a superworm with a coil of glitter pb over the worms head with just enough shot to hold and slowly drag upstream, and hold, but cast both ways shot to hook depends but usually a foot or so...

The water was high and moving pretty fast so I went with a small trout jig at first to get it down and focused on the pockets behind rocks and the slow water at the edges of fast water. Tried a spinner for a bit in the same areas, then went to a Power Bait worm on enough split shot to get it down to the bottom, but keep it moving. Then went back to the jig in the deeper, fast moving water. Nada.
