Mid October through January 1, besides the herring spawn, is my favorite time to fish. The fish most definitely ARE feeding heavy for winter. We've had multiple days throughout fall when we've put over 40 Hybrids in the boat, slammed the biggest, fattest Walleyes of the year, big LMB's, as well as "unplanned" battles with Muskies. The biggest difference between "Jersey fishing" and "everywhere else" is the seasonal patterns of forage base. Ours(Alewife) go deep in the cooler temps, where as in other parts of the country they (shiners, cisco, etc.) move shallow. If you are a bank-pounding Bass fisherman, you surely won't have much success. Think deep and your catches will increase
