NJDF&W had a lot of input as to structure in the res.: cabled down piles of trees, stump fields, pea sized gravel areas for spawning, standing timber for snakes & bird perches (good fish structure, too). Depth / structure map: http://www.state.nj.us/dep/fgw/pdf/lakes/manasquan.pdf (enlarge to see depth numbers, etc.) The first fish we stocked were Alewife Herring. Two years later, we sampled with gill nets & captured some of the largest landlocked Alewives we have ever seen. Too bad Monmouth Co. does not allow fishing after dark. In the past, have tried to get them to do so, but have had no luck. As you aware, they are very safety conscious. No wade fishing allowed. Perhaps, pressure from interested anglers through The New Jersey State Federation of Sportsmen’s Clubs http://www.njsfsc.org/ might work. Maybe a limited number of night permits. |
