Shad Swan Song at the Gap

Hit the water at 6 am Sunday morning on another solo mission looking for a last shot at my favorite fresh water fish . Conditions were good . Water was up and a little stained. Wound up landing 10 shad by 10:00 before a monsoon came . Mostly bucks but the 2 roe I caught were bruisers and jumpers. After 30 years of catching Shad I never kept one for the table. I decided to try the Roe on the 2 I kept. I mixed the roe in some scrambled eggs and Pecarino cheese and cooked it in bacon fat. It was delicious. Felt good to finally try this. Hopefully I'll be eating this little treat for many Spring's to come.

Sounds like a great day, congrats. From the title of your post it sounds like you think it's winding down up there? With only 2 roe out of 10 fish it sounds like there may be a couple weeks left? I've done well in the lower river this year but haven't gotten one fish higher than lambertville.

I still think there are plenty of Shad left to catch up at the Gap. I've never really followed the Shad north as some guys do. I was thinking of taking a ride to
Milford this weekend to see for myself. The fish I caught still had plenty of fight left in them.

That's awesome!! I couldn't even get a bite from a shad yesterday! All I caught was one tiny chub lol

Glad to see you getting your shad fix. You seem dialed in. I thought you could catch shad well into the month of June ? Get me some photos too
