![]() Last nite, I spoke to a few anglers @ The Old Wharf (fishing access @ Riverview Plaza).
They hadn't caught anything yet. But, the previous nite they caught & released a 40 lb striper (cut shad for bait) & foul hooked (& released) a good sized Shortnose Sturgeon. Showed me photos /video on their cellphones. Also, got word that you can see Shortnose Sturgeon lining up to spawn, from the pedestrian walkway of the Calhoun St. Bridge, Trenton. |

![]() It's good to hear the sturgeon are slowly but steadily re-building their stocks after being so hard hit during most of the last century. Hopefully all the efforts being put into research on them in NJ and across the country will eventually bear fruit and finally shed more light on their habitat requirements, spawning area and condition requirements, environmental impacts on recruitment, growth rates and age of reproductive maturity, etc.
