Default Senkos for bass ?

I came across this disturbing photo. Apparently the bass died during a tournament.

When on vacation last year in Lake George a park ranger was telling me that they catch lakers with stomachs full of senkos all the time.

I believe him since my wife caught a 7# dead sticking a senko while smb fishing.

I've heard of this before. I think people really need to use the o rings on the worm to rig whacky. it def highly reduces the worm getting sucked off the hook and swallowed.

i wonder if companies can use bio degradable material to make the worms out of.

tie better knots and check constantly too! i see one rig in there with the hook still on it i think! i usually check my knots every fish caught or snag.

The problem stems from uninformed or slob fishermen who are too lazy to dispose of their used baits. The Senkos best and worst feature is the softness of the lure. They can get beat up in a hurry,so make sure your used lures make it to the proper disposal. I know in some cases a worm will be shaken off the hook during a fight but in my experience, and i've caught hundreds of bass on senkos ,90% of the time the worm comes in with the fish. So bottom line ,Don't throw Senkos or any other plastic lure in the water.

.

I could see future legislation making biodegradable plastic laws mandatory.

Not only are plastic lures becoming a littering nuisance, but they may also be interfering with the bass's ability to digest their real food.

Here is an article about it:

I have had a lot of bass barf up plastic lures when I reel them in. I've never considered that there may be a lot of lures stuck in their stomachs until I started seeing pictures like the one posted above.

This. ^

I usually end up with tens of torn up plastic baits in the drink holder pouches on my tackle bag when I finally get around to throwing them away.... AT HOME.

I haven't gut hooked a fish since switching to circle hooks and using O-rings for wacky rigged Senkos. I haven't missed any hookups that I know of with them.

Also, All my garbage, used line, plastics, whatever just gets tossed under the console of the boat and gets disposed of properly when I get home. It's not that hard, I can't understand what the need is to toss junk overboard.
